This is a hard but rewarding 9km day hike up 740m up to the saddle of Mt Curi, one of the most prominent peaks in Manatuto. Enjoy the epic views of Timor-Leste’s northern coastline, including of Baucau in the distance.

By its very nature, adventure travel involves an element of the unexpected. In remote and developing countries do not expect standards you are used to back at home. Remote areas are sometimes unpredictable and itineraries may need to be altered. To get the most from your tour it is important to be flexible, positive and eager to take on all the challenges that arise. The environments we travel through are fragile and it is our responsibility as visitors to minimise the impact of our presence.
What to Expect:
7am Get picked up from your accommodation for the 1.5 hour scenic drive from Dili to Subaun. It is a steady climb, with some shade during the first half, and little in the second half, so come prepared. The hike passes through the Subaun Important Bird Area, so keep your eyes and ears open for birdlife. Stop for a rest about half way at the small village of Ilimanu before continuing up to the saddle for incredible views. For those with energy it is possible to head toward the 1,332m summit, but as it is a sacred place access is dependent on permission from the closest village, which isn’t guaranteed. Return the way you came and return to Dili late afternoon.
