The US Dollar currency makes solo travel logistics easy – a huge plus. The food, especially the Mie Ayam in Baucau, was great. Travel outside Dili is slow, but the destination is worth it. Atauro Island is a must-see break from the mainland hustle. A refreshing and easygoing adventure.
A profoundly rewarding solo journey. The decay of the Portuguese colonial architecture in Baucau, especially the Pousada, is utterly fascinating. Logistics demand patience, particularly the rough roads, but the historical depth and the resilience of the Timorese people make it essential travel. Requires patience, delivers immense rewards.
This country is lekker (nice). Rented a 4×4 with a local driver, a smart move given the roads. The fresh grilled fish at the roadside stalls is like a mini braai everywhere! It’s proper adventure travel where everyone helps everyone. No tourist bubble here, just raw, stunning landscapes. 10/10 for the open road.
