Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kupang » Meet & Greet » City Tour

Once you have met your guide and group in Kupang, we’ll embark on a tour of the capital city. We’ll explore history at the National Museum of Nusa Tenggara Timur. Explore the natural beauty of Oenesu Waterfall, this tiered waterfall is a great place to cool off while you are still acclimatizing to the heat. We’ll continue exploring nature and wildlife with a visit to Monkey Forest, where these charming creatures will interact with you and take snacks from your hands, so watch out! In the afternoon, we’ll head to the palm tree-fringed Lasiana Beach for another swim and time to relax on the sand. In the evening, we’ll eat at Kampung Solor, known for its seafood specialties. We’ll then head back to our hotel to rest up ahead of a day full of adventure.

Day 2Oebelo Village » Soe » Fatumnasi

After breakfast, we’ll leave city life behind and head to Oebelo Village, the home of the traditional Sasando musical instrument where we’ll witness how the locals produce and play songs. We’ll continue the drive up to the town of Soe through Noelmina and its luscious rice fields. We’ll stop in Soe for lunch and then continue to Fatumnasi through Kapan village and the pine forest. Fatumnasi is a village comprised and surrounded by alpine meadows and streams. It’s rich in history and nature, making it a great place to spend the night. Tonight we’ll stay in the Lopo Mutis homestay.

Day 3Oehala Waterfalls » None Village » Boti Village

We’ll make our way to the Oehala Waterfalls passing by Marble Hill and Lake Naususu. After enjoying the atmosphere of the seven-tiered waterfall, we’ll continue to None Village. None Village is often named as home to one of the most interesting tribes in West Timor, it is a headhunting tribe that has its own shaman and conducts rituals based on their spiritual and magical beliefs. Next, we’ll head to Boti Village, the location of our overnight homestay. Boti is perhaps the most well-known traditional village in the area as its people are guided by their village king or raja, they reject modernization and the Christian religion, preferring to stick to their Adat and be self-sufficient.

Day 4Niki-Niki » Kefamenanu » Nunpene » Kiupasan

Today is all about learning the traditional way of life in the diverse communities of West Timor. We’ll pass along mountain roads to our first stop in Niki-Niki, which will either be the traditional market, where local produce is sold, or a visit to the palace of King Nope. We’ll then continue on the road to Kefamenanu and enjoy a traditional reception in the Palace of Maslete, the home of one of the three former tribal kings of Kefamenanu. We’ll head on to the villages, firstly to Nunpene to see locals processing salt as per traditional culture, and secondly to Kiupasan where you can see villagers producing alcohol. Tonight we’ll spend the night in the Victory 2 Hotel in Kefamenanu.

Day 5Amol » Tamkessi » Outlook » Atambua

We’ll start the day by driving to Amol, in this village we’ll enjoy a traditional dance performance by students. We’ll then drive to the rocky village of Tamkessi, the home of the Biboki tribe, to learn more about their way of life. We then continue onto Oelolok village, the center of the kingdom of Insana, the village is home to Taolin Palace where the Insana king once lived. The palace resembles a Dutch country house and is surrounded by lush vegetation and a network of streams. We’ll finish the day in Atambua city, the second-largest in East Nusa Tenggara due to its history of being a popular destination for Chinese and East Timorese immigrants. The Kingstar Hotel awaits us at the end of the day.

Day 6Timor-Leste Border » Teluk Gurita » Kolam Susu » Kupang

Leaving Atambua behind, we’ll head up to Mota’ain on the Timor-Leste border. Its position means it has seen terrible atrocities throughout the island’s past, your guide will recount some of that history. We’ll then drive to the coast to Teluk Gurita to see the statue of the Virgin Mary, and on to Kolam Susu, a traditional village that works in salt processing.
